Vandanmedu literally means ‘beetle shaped hill’ in Malayalam. One of the many enchanting hill stations in Kerala, Vandanmedu can be found as you meander along the curves and bends on the Thekkady Munnar road.

Located around 23 kms from the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, Vandanmendu is renowned for its sprawling meadows of cardamom and tea plantations. It has the distinction of being the world’s largest cardamom producing region. The region is also an auction center for cardamom, also lovingly known as the ‘queen of spices’.

A beautiful hill station, Vandanmedu offers you the sight of lush green hills that gently tease your nostrils by guiding the gentle breeze that carries with it the fragrant smell of cardamom.

This pretty hill station is perched at a height of 4,000 feet above sea level. Besides cardamom and tea plantations, this little slice of heaven has orchards and plantations with pepper, cinnamon, clove nutmeg and ginger, and banana, mango, litchi, guava, pineapple, orange, mangosteen, rose apple, rambuttan, butter fruit and papaya. If there is a place on earth that resembles the Garden of Eden, Vandanmedu is the place.
