Novembre 21, 2015Certainly, travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.
Vacations become greatly interesting when they open us up to a whole new way of life. I had one such opportunity during a recent one to greenwoods resort at thekkady in kerala. A bunch of friends and i had the opportunity to visit a village called Chellarkovil, a little drive away from the resort.
Hardly five kilometers from kumily situates chellarkovil, the picturesque village tht is famed for its gushing waterfalls and sprawling mountains. Seated at the kerala-tamil nadu border, the chellarkovil waterfalls originates in kerala and falls into tamilnadu. Falling from 1200 m above sea level, thses waterfalls are a delightful spectacle. Chellarkovil is famed eco-tourism site with several natural attractions that are freequented by tourist from world over. This virgin green harmlet offers breathtaking view points of the plains and valleys of kambam, theni and Mangaladevi from its eastern side. We had a great time capturing these picture perfect locations.
Chellarkovil hosts severael popular eco-tourism projects as well. The income generated through such projects are used for afforestation and other environment protection projects in the region. The tree top huts and herbarium of chellarkovil are quite famous among these. Other favourites from the region include guided trekking, guided spice tour interesting village activities. Chellarkovil has a watch tower and balcony called ‘god’s own balcony’. The sunrise and sunset from here are quite a sight.
The rustic charm, the eco-friendly activities and a calm unlike any other sets chellarkovil apart from every other destination. It is this distinction that makes us want to visit this beautiful village again and again.
